Frequently Asked Questions
What Amatal does, how the numbers are worked out, and what it costs.
More than 150 assessments across 15 categories: body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, power, speed, agility, coordination, balance, flexibility, calisthenics, CrossFit, powerlifting, and the official fitness tests used by the U.S. military and federal agencies.

No. There are no accounts on Amatal — every calculator works immediately, with nothing to sign up for.
That does mean results are not saved between visits, so write down anything you want to keep. Saved results and progress tracking are planned, but they are not available yet.
Yes. Every assessment on the site is free to use, with no account, no card details, and no limits on how many you run.
Every threshold traces back to a published source — among them ACSM's Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, the Cooper Institute, the Senior Fitness Test of Rikli and Jones, Eurofit, the World Health Organization, and the original validation studies behind individual tests. Each calculator names the source it uses.
Where a test's published data has limits — a narrow age range, a specific population, an open-ended top bracket — that is stated on the page rather than papered over. If a test has no defensible published norms, it does not get built.
Accuracy varies by test, and each page says so. A directly measured lab VO2max is far more precise than one estimated from a walking test; a tape measurement is cruder than a seven-site skinfold.
Two things matter more than the calculator: measuring the same way each time, and treating a result as a zone rather than a verdict. Someone just inside a boundary and someone just outside it are not meaningfully different.
It depends on the test. Plenty need nothing at all — push-ups, planks, the wall sit, the single-leg stance. Others need a stopwatch and a tape measure, which covers most of the site.
A few need real equipment or a second person: skinfold calipers, a cycle ergometer, a treadmill, a marked track. Each page lists what the test requires before you start.
The numbers you type into a calculator are worked out in your own browser and are not sent anywhere or stored. Close the tab and they are gone.
Since there are no accounts, there is no fitness data held on the site at all. See the privacy policy for what the site does collect.
Anyone who wants a real number instead of a guess. Powerlifters, military and federal applicants, tactical athletes, student athletes, older adults tracking mobility and fall risk, and complete beginners.
Most tests are scored against age and sex, so a result means something whether you are 19 or 70.
Ask. Send a request with the test you have in mind and it will be built if there is published data behind it.
Some requests get declined, and the reason is always the same: no reproducible published norms exist for that test. Inventing thresholds would defeat the point of the site.
Pick something you can measure right now. The One Rep Max calculator needs two numbers you already know. The Waist-to-Hip Ratio needs a tape measure and thirty seconds.
From there, browse the categories and work through whichever matter for your training.
