Note on the data: Angie isn't in the peer-reviewed study behind the strength calculators. Tiers come from community benchmark data (WodPrep, Warrior Mindset, SEALgrinderPT and similar) for a broad field of Rx athletes — solid, but not a controlled study. Two honest caveats: the data is not sex-split and looks male-leaning, and Angie has a large real sex gap (the 100 pull-ups and 100 push-ups both strongly favour men — elite times run ~6 min male vs ~9 min female), so women should read a given tier as a strong result relative to women; and the pull-ups and push-ups are a skill/strength gate — if you can't yet cycle them, those two stations dominate your time. How the Angie Calculator Works

"Angie" is one of CrossFit's original benchmark chippers: 100 pull-ups, then 100 push-ups, then 100 sit-ups, then 100 air squats — all for time, 400 reps total, each movement finished completely before you move to the next. It's a pure bodyweight muscular-endurance test: no barbell, no machine, no external load — just your own bodyweight through a huge volume of gymnastics reps. The pull-ups and push-ups are the bulk of the difficulty; the sit-ups and squats are a fast-moving back half. You performed the workout, so your time is the measurement; this tool places it into one of five tiers, adjusted for age. It's the for-time cousin of Cindy (the same movement family in a 20-minute AMRAP).

An Honest Note on the Data

Most calculators in this suite are built on a peer-reviewed study of the CrossFit population. Angie is not in that study. Its tiers come instead from community benchmark data that agrees closely across sources (WodPrep and Warrior Mindset: Beginner 26–35, Intermediate 21–25, Advanced 15–20, Elite under 14 minutes; SEALgrinderPT reporting an average around 23–26 and elite times near 6–9). We've mapped those onto the five-tier scale (Elite ≤14:00, Superior ≤17:00, Advanced ≤20:00, Intermediate ≤25:00 at peak age).

What that means for you, honestly:

  • It's solid community data, but not a controlled study. The times come from coaching guidance and logged results across a broad field, not a measured research sample. Treat the tiers as a good guide rather than a precise cutoff.
  • The data isn't split by sex, and it looks male-leaning. Because the tiers aren't sex-split, women are effectively measured against a mixed, male-leaning field — and Angie's sex gap is unusually large — see the next section.
  • The pull-ups and push-ups are a skill/strength gate. Together they're 200 of the 400 reps and the hardest stations. If you can't yet cycle pull-ups, or your push-ups fall apart, those two movements will dominate your time — your result then reflects upper-body pulling/pressing endurance more than overall fitness.
  • The percentile, distribution curve, and "conditioning age" are modeled on this data — read them as illustrative, not exact.

Step 1: Enter Your Time (Rx Only)

Angie is scored in minutes and seconds — lower is better. The standards assume the Rx version: strict or kipping pull-ups (chin over bar), chest-to-floor push-ups, full sit-ups, and full-depth air squats — all 100 of each, done in order. Scaling — banded or jumping pull-ups, knee push-ups, or reduced reps — produces faster times that aren't comparable, so a scaled time scored here would read as artificially strong. If you scaled, treat your result as rough.

Step 2: Match Your Time to Standards

Your time is compared to age-adjusted cutoffs and assigned to one of five tiers (faster is better):

  • Low — Slower than about 25:00. Below the community median — usually pull-ups and push-ups breaking down into small sets with long rests.
  • Intermediate — Roughly 20:00–25:00. Around the middle of the Rx field; a solid, honest Angie.
  • Advanced — Roughly 17:00–20:00. Steady, well-managed sets on the pulls and presses with tight transitions — faster than most (~P75–P90).
  • Superior — Roughly 14:00–17:00. Big, composed pull-up and push-up sets and a fast back half (~P90–P95).
  • Elite — Under about 14:00. Top ~5% of the Rx field; the fastest competitive athletes go under 10 minutes. See the note below.

These band edges come from the community benchmark times, mapped onto the five-tier scale and then adjusted for age.

What "Elite" Means Here — an Honest Caveat

"Elite" here is roughly the top 5% of the Rx field (about 14:00 at peak age), not the competitive ceiling. The very top of the sport is far faster: elite competitors finish Angie in well under 10 minutes (reported male times near 6 minutes), holding enormous unbroken pull-up and push-up sets. Read "Elite" as "excellent for a serious recreational athlete," with real competitive Angies sitting below it.

Why Men's and Women's Standards Are the Same Here — and Why That's a Caveat, Not a Feature

Unlike Grace or Isabel — barbell-only sprints where a sex-scaled bar lets women reach essentially the same times as men — Angie has an unusually large sex gap. It's 200 reps of upper-body pulling and pressing at bodyweight, and that's exactly where the average male–female strength difference is widest; reported elite times bear it out (around 6 minutes for men versus about 9 for women). So men are genuinely, and substantially, faster at Angie on average.

The tiers here are nonetheless set equal for men and women — not because the workout is fair across sexes, but because the community data isn't split by sex and appears male-leaning, and inventing a female offset without data would violate this site's data-integrity rule. The honest consequence: a woman hitting a given tier is doing better, relative to women, than the same tier implies for a man — and here that effect is larger than for most Girls. If you're a woman, read your result as a strong showing and mentally shade it up a tier.

Why Age Matters — and a Note on the Borrowed Curve

Angie is a long, grinding effort — usually 14–26 minutes — so it leans on muscular endurance in the pulling and pressing muscles and on aerobic capacity to keep moving, more than on short anaerobic power. Both fade with age, so standards are scaled so an older athlete isn't measured against a 30-year-old's time.

The honest part: there's no age-banded Angie data, so the peak-age cutoffs are the community times described above, while the shape of the age decline is borrowed — the same conditioning-decline curve used for the other metcons (roughly 1% per year from the mid-30s, accelerating after about 70). Both the base cutoffs and the age shape are estimates, not measurement.

Why Bodyweight Isn't Used to Set Your Tier

Angie isn't weight-adjusted: the tier depends only on your time. That said, bodyweight isn't neutral here — every rep is a relative-strength (strength-to-bodyweight) movement, so a lighter, leaner athlete has a real advantage across all four stations, especially the pull-ups. With no weight classes and no bodyweight data for Angie, a single time-based standard is the fair approach; just know a heavier athlete is doing more absolute work for the same time.

The Cards

  • Your Time & Tier — your Angie time, your tier, and how much you'd need to trim to reach the next one.
  • Conditioning Age — the age whose typical Angie time matches yours. Because muscular-endurance capacity peaks in the mid-20s to mid-30s, a time faster than any age's typical mark reads as "peak-conditioning level"; slower times map to an older conditioning age.
  • Population Comparison — a modeled percentile: roughly what fraction of athletes in your age group you'd be faster than.

Where You Fall

The distribution curve places your time within a modeled, illustrative spread of athletes of your sex and age, shaded into the five tiers, with faster times to the right. It's a visual sense of "how rare is this," not a literal population census.

Data Sources and Verification

  • Community benchmark data — Angie's tier bands come from sources that agree closely: WodPrep / Warrior Mindset (Beginner 26–35, Intermediate 21–25, Advanced 15–20, Elite <14 min) and SEALgrinderPT (average 23–26), mapped onto the five-tier scale.
  • Cross-checked reported top times — Elite finishes near 6–9 minutes and the common "fit athletes 12–20 min" range are consistent across coaching sources.
  • Not the peer-reviewed study — Unlike the strength lifts, Angie isn't in the CrossFit-population study; its data is community-sourced.
  • Masters conditioning-decline research — The age-adjustment curve is borrowed from established masters conditioning/aging data.

Limitations and Important Caveats

  • Not sex-split, and strongly male-leaning — The single biggest caveat: men and women share one set of tiers even though Angie has an unusually large sex gap (200 reps of upper-body pulling and pressing at bodyweight). Women should read a given tier as a notably stronger result than it implies for a man.
  • Community data, not a controlled study — Coaching-guidance and logged times across a broad field, coarser and less precise than the study-based calculators.
  • Pull-up and push-up gate — Those 200 reps are the hardest part; if you can't yet cycle pull-ups or your push-ups fail, your time reflects upper-body endurance more than overall fitness.
  • Relative-strength movement — every rep is bodyweight, so a lighter athlete has a real advantage; there's no bodyweight adjustment.
  • Modeled percentile and distribution — the percentile, curve, and conditioning age are illustrative estimates layered on the community data.
  • Rx assumption — Standards are for full-rep, full-range pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, and air squats; scaled versions (banded/jumping pull-ups, knee push-ups, reduced reps) aren't comparable.
